Shell of a Week

Hiya and thanks for stopping by. I am really excited this week to show you what I have gotten done.  first off over at Every Inchie Monday the theme is "Shell".  I really don't know many people who don't like shells.  I am sure they are out there but I don't know them.  LOL.

Recently me and a friend were talking about shells.  She was telling me about a Conch shell that her brother got for her when he went to the ocean.  She told me it was really big and she loved it.  Had it since the '70's and a few months back her Sons girlfriends son broke it.  She was heart broken.

Her story reminded me of when my parents and I moved to Florida, (it was supposed to be a forever move that only lasted 3 months!).  I was 9 years old and not really into boys yet; so when this boy gave me a big conch shell that he found in a drainage ditch in hopes of getting a kiss, I punched him in the stomach and took the shell anyways LOL.  I had it up until I moved out of the house and I lost it after that.  LOL  I miss that shell.

Recently, I subscribed to a "bot" called Bobcat in a Box.  With this you can subscribe for any amount of money that you want, starting at $30 a month.  The bot then goes onto Ebay and tries to buy things within your search parameters, for the amount you designate.  Giving you packages almost everyday.  I had a $30 subscription with the tags, crafts, beads, nail art (for my daughter) and Magic the Gathering (for my son).  One of the first things I got from the bot was 2 shells!  They are both so beautiful.  Well worth the .85 that it cost to get them.  If you want more info on the Bot (I am not affiliated with the bot at all, just a fan), follow the link.

But back to EIM, I decided to make an iconic shell.  I say iconic because when I think of shells this is my first thought.  Prolly for most people as well. Also, I don't know the name of this type of shell, LOL. I used 3 colors of delicas, I like the look of it & hope that you do as well.

Now, I am also excited because I am 99% done with my daughters surprise amulet bag.  She still has no idea about it.  That is also the exciting and nerve wracking thing.  The other day I had a dream that I was sitting at the kitchen table looking on my computer and I had the amulet bag laying on top of my computer, and my daughter saw it and asked about it. I know, I know that is impossible and weird, but so are most dreams, right.  Well I woke up and ran to the kitchen to check and make sure it was hidden from her. It was, so all is good.

Anyways, I am excited that the bag is all done except for the clasp.  I did not have one that went with the bag so I ordered a vermeil silver "S" clasp.  I think it will go well with the theme of the bag.  Without further ado here it is.

For those who have not seen this in pieces in an earlier post the first picture is one side of the the amulet, it has the Eye of Ra and the Eye of Horus on it.  The backside is the 2nd picture and it has the bust of King Tut on it, also known as his death mask.

I used 7 colors of delicas, one of which was DB34 the 24K gold plated beads. The fringe also has Rizo beads, and 3mm green jade and 4mm yellow jade beads. The necklace is made with 2 inch herringbone sections with turquoise disks and round faceted red agate beads connecting them.

I am so in love with this and I can not wait until May 8th to give it to her.  My baby girl is growing up!  I hope you like it as well.

That is all I have for you this week, have a blessed and creative week and don't forget to fly on over to EIM and check out all the other shells that the awesome artists have made.

Lastly, as a side note, please keep Nepal in your prayers.  They sure need it right now.

Octopus Inchie

This weeks theme over at Every Inchie Monday is Octopus.  I am not a big fan of octopi.  I don't even like calamari!  But I do like this little guy, if only for the fact that beads make him look goooood!  LOL  Hope you like him.

He is a happy Octopi, that is if Octopi can be happy lol.  In this inchie I used 3 colors of Delicas.

Dont forget to fly on over to EIM and check out the great hoards of octopi that the great ladies have designed.  Thanks and have a blessed and creative week.

Running behind with a gecko.

Sorry I am posting late this week.  Work has been a bear and kinda worn me out.  I have had trouble catching up with my bead work.  I did finish a challenge over at Seedbeadsters.  Where the challenge is bead tubes.  I decided to make 2 of the tubes and incorporate them into my daughters gift.  But after trying to work them in it did not work out.  But I do love them and will prolly make more.  Check this out.

One of these is zipped up as a tube and the other is what it looks like flat.

I have gotten a bit more work done on the amulet bag for my daughter but I have not taken pictures yet.  I will make you wait to see that, lol.

Over at Every Inchie Monday the theme was gecko.  I decided on the "typical" gecko pose.  I am not really happy with the look I got because of the background color but here it is.  Maybe I should have said that he is camouflaged, haha.  Anyways, here it is.

Can you see him?  Yea I know it is kinda hard to see but still.  Hey, thanks for stopping by and don't forget to fly by EIM and check out the rest of the geckos.  Have a blessed and creative week.

Knitting an Inchie and an Amulet Surprise.

I would like to wish everyone a belated Happy Easter.  He is Risen!

This week over at Every Inchie Monday the theme is "Knitting"  Well knitting is not my thing.  I just shared with another inchie ninja about my first and only time knitting.  My daughter tried to teach it to me.  We worked on it for about 10 minutes or so and she had a lovely springy 7 inch row of stitches.  I on the other hand, had a tightly woven 2 inch row that was prolly bulletproof!

One thing that this theme had reminded me of was something that I actually bought as a teenager from a garage sale.  It was one of those little quarter machine plastic dolls and someone had knitted a little dress on it. The doll was prolly 1.5 inches long and the stitches were so tiny, I had that little thing for the longest time.  I don't know what ever happened to it but I loved it.  The thought that someone could stitch something that tiny just made me in love with all things tiny, still to this day; can't you tell?

Originally I was going to bead a ball of yarn with needles in it.  But just before I started I decided to go a different route.  I thought about all of those beautifully ugly Christmas sweaters.  So that was what I went with.  Hope you like it.  It has 8 colors of Delicas in it and I don't think I would wear it!

 Dontcha just love it!  LOL.

Also this week I decided to start to make something for my daughter.  In a month she will be graduating from college!!!  FROM COLLEGE!  Oh my gosh my baby girl is growing up.  Where has the time gone.

My daughter is not one to wear jewelry, besides her studs and gauges so making her jewelry is not an option.  But, instead I have decided to make her an amulet bag.  I got the idea from our Egypt inchie that we did a few weeks ago.  My daughter loves everything Egypt.  Ever since she was little all she ever loved was Egypt.  The pharaohs, the pyramids, the history.  Egypt has it all.

So I went to work and thought about some of the icons of Egypt.  I thought about the pyramids and camels, Nefertiti and King Tut, scarabs and cats.  But in the end I went with the Eye of Ra and the Eye of Horus on one side of the amulet and on the other side was King Tuts Death mask.

What do you think?  I have a lot of work to do with it yet, I need to attach the two sides, add the necklace and the fringe.  But I am having to do it when she is not around or when she is too busy to pay attention to what I am doing, so hopefully I can get the rest of it done before she graduates!  Wish me luck on that one.

Have a blessed and creative week and don't forget to fly on over to EIM and check out the rest of the knitting inchies.
